Schwarzenegger Vetoes "Donda West" Bill

The California governor has over 700 bills to either approve or disapprove by midnight, September 30, and this one -- which was a kneejerk legislative response to the unfortunate death of rapper Kanye West's mother following a plastic surgery procedure -- did not meet Arnold's benchmark of "highest priority" legislation.

Lawyers Try to Skirt Malpractice Limits (Again)

In yet another attempt by lawyers to get around tort limits on medical malpractice cases, Rob Oliver, Jr, MD, casts a critical eye on how, as he puts it, "the American trial bar is once again attempting to establish a game plan for circumventing liability protection that the FDA grants drug and device manufacturers after going thru the FDA approval process."

California's 'medspa bill': a special interest boondoggle?

MedicalSpaMD's Web site has republished a PSA-style e-mail from an organization called The International Medical Spa Association, which criticizes the recently proposed California assembly bill that would place restraints on the flourishing medspa business.

The organization claims that the proposed bill, which is currently in committee, would damage California businesses, restrict access to services, and potentially drive up costs for consumers in order to protect a special class of physicians.
